Primavera Sound Barcelona has just announced the exciting news that the 2022 edition will be expanded to two weekends. Expect to see over 400 artists in a marathon 11 days of uninterrupted concerts and shows from Thursday, June 2nd to Sunday, June 12th. Year over year, this indie rock festival has produced outstanding lineups, so we predict this will be a can’t miss event for the 2022 season.

If you’ve never been to Primavera Sound, it’s held in Barcelona during the first weekend of June each year (primavera is “spring” in Spanish). As one of the most popular and international festivals in the world the event sees about 220,000 attendees from 126 countries. The main venue is at the Parc del Fòrum which boasts a whopping 16 stages filled with hundreds of acts. During the week, there also is the Primavera Pro conference along with numerous shows across the city.

So, how does an 11-day show work? The bulk of the festival will still be held at its traditional venue of Parc del Fòrum from June 2-4 (1st weekend) and June 9-11 (2nd weekend). During the week, from June 5th to the 8th, there will be events across the city with over 150 concerts. Also called Primavera a la Ciutat (Primavera in the city), this is an amazing way to musically tourist your way through Barcelona. The final Sunday of the event on June 12th will be a massive Brunch On The Beach party.

The 2022 Primavera Sound line-up promises to be one for the ages. According to the official website, “the weekend lineups will be completely different from one another, except for some prominent artists who will play at both.” If you are a fan of indie rock, we can’t recommend this festival enough. Between the secret shows, the lineup, and the off-site concerts, Primavera Sound has always been one of our top picks for any festie that wants to experience a European fest.

Another consideration with the expanded weekend is how it will affect Primavera’s sister festival in Porto, Portugal. NOS Primavera Sound typically takes place the weekend after Primavera, but this year has been scheduled from June 9th-12th, 2022. Do we stick around for the 2nd weekend or head over to Portugal? All we can say is that it’s nice to have options back in our lives again.

We were gutted when Primavera Sound 2021 and 2020 were cancelled. The Primavera family has turned into our tradition kick-off to festival season for the past five years so as you can imagine, we are already booking travel. Fingers crossed that they are able to get the Pavement reunion back for 2022. Tickets for Primavera Sound 2022 Barcelona will go on sale on Wednesday, June 1st on DICE. The little sibling to Barcelona's mega-festival Primavera Sound, this Portuguese edition takes place the following weekend in the charming city of Porto. The recipe remains the same, with a staggering roster of indie rock talent. The grassy hillsides of Parque Central means that every seat is a prime location to watch the show.
