The Isle of Wight, England’s largest island, boasts a rich history of hosting music festivals. Jefferson Airplane, Bob Dylan, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Cocker, Joen Baez, and Leonard Cohen all played in the early days — that is until Parliament banned the festival in 1970 when rampaging hippies created a security nightmare.
A lucky break in 2002 led to a revival of the festival and the Isle of Wight Festival hasn’t looked back bringing in a decade’s worth of big names to anchor the weekend.
This year, the major headliners include grunge legends Pearl Jam blowing up Saturday night. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers will kick off on Friday and “The Boss” himself, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, close out the show on Sunday.
Other artists added to the bill are Elbow, Example, Noah & The Whale, Feeder, Biffy Clyro, Madness, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, The vaccines, The Christians, Professor Green, and The Darkness.
