The Scene: You’ll know when you arrive at the St. Augustine Crawfish Boil. The scent of 20,000 pounds of fresh crawfish is hard to miss. My mouth was watering before I even rolled into the heart of the Ancient City.

Although this is St. Augustine’s first Crawfish Boil, it’s nothing new for the south. The series started in Birmingham back in 1991, blossoming from an invitation only backyard party into a massive street festival whose proceeds benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

After stuffing my face with two pounds of tasty crawdads, I slipped backstage in time to catch G. Love rocking the crowd while in the crowd. Then Snoop Dogg rose to the stage in a cloud of smoke that smelled a little funny. No one seemed to mind.

I wouldn’t necessarily call it a backyard party anymore, but Snoop Dogg and G. Love made everyone feel at home with classic lines like: “We ain’t leaving till 6 in tha morn,”and “Can I get a cold beverage?” Groove on fellow festival junkies. See you at Summer Camp!

cocoEach week, our resident festival expert drops in on a different party and reports back on The Scene. This week Coco checks in from the Ancient City Crawfish Boil.
