This weekend (June 23-24, 2012), the MFW crew will be checking out The Governor’s Ball in New York City. After a successful debut in 2011, the festival returns this year to Randall’s Island (Governor’s Island is under construction). With names like Modest Mouse, Beck, Passion Pit, Chromeo, and Fiona Apple, you’ll dance so hard you might have to be taken away in the Dancebulance.

The Lineup

We’re really digging on the lineup. Saturday is geared towards dance-heavy artists while more chilled out Sunday focuses on indie rock acts — especially a few great names from the nineties. with the split-genre setup, it’s almost like two mini festivals and we’re curious to see how the crowd dynamics will change each day.

Saturday, June 23: Passion Pit, Chromeo, Kid Kudi, Major Lazer, Special Disco Version (with James Murphy and Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem), Atmosphere, Santigold, Big Gigantic, Duck Sauce, Penguin Prison, Walk The Moon, Art vs. Science, K. Flay, Nobody Beats The Drum

Sunday, June 24: Beck, Modest Mouse, Explosions in the Sky, Fiona Apple, Devandra Banhart, Cage The Elephant, Built To Spill, Cults, Phantogram, Freelance Whales, Alberta Cross, The Jezabels, Turf War

The Details

Hours: First acts of the day start shortly after noon with the headliner wrapping up around 11:00pm — more than enough time to get back to the city for late night parties.

Tickets: Single day tickets are $105 (plus fees); Two day passes $195 (plus fees).

Traveling to the Venue: The best way to access Randall’s is via ferry. Killer views of the city and you get to say “we’re on a boat” and everybody will do a fake laugh. Second option is a shuttle bus which runs from Williamsburg. Public transportation will involve taking the subway and a bus combination. Taking a car to the festival is discouraged. There’s limited parking, no tailgating, and no overnight allowed. Just going to be a hassle if you go the car route.

Six Things We Like Besides the Lineup

1. Scenic Ferry Rides to Randall’s Island (plus a full bar!)
2. NYC Food Trucks
3. The Silent Disco
4. Beer Pong
5. Free Water Refill Stations
6. No Overlapping Sets
