Going camping in the woods of Canada has a whole new meaning after visiting the legendary Shambhala Music Festival last week. Shambhala brings in ten thousand fun-loving fans and pairs them with hundreds of DJs to create an experience unlike any other.

Shambhala does everything their own way. Instead of having tons of sponsors, selling alcohol, and managing every stage, Shambhala is sponsor free, alcohol free, and has a different production company manage and book the talent for each stage. The end result is a festival free of annoying advertisements, free of drunk people, and stages that have an unbelievable attention to detail. This is a recipe for festival bliss.

The farm, which Shambhala is thrown on, is a festivalgoer’s dream. First, it’s in a big valley, which means the sun comes up later in the day and goes down earlier in the day, so there is less time with direct sunlight. The stages are surrounded by trees, which allows for lots of creativity when coming up with stage design. There is also a river that runs through the farm, which provides everyone with a perfect place to go hang out during the day.

Shambhala’s biggest asset is the people that attend. The crowd is over 90% Canadian, which is awesome because Canadians are some of the world’s nicest, most down to earth people. Everyone at Shambhala is like one big family that is super excited to be partying together; what other family can say that? The crowd also did a really great job of picking up after themselves.

As much fun as Shambhala was, there is still room for improvement. There needs to be more bathrooms in high traffic areas so the lines don’t take over ten minutes. They also need to get with the millennial program and upgrade their paper wristbands. Luckily for Shambhala, these are really easy fixes; once they make them Shambhala will truly be a perfect music festival.
