This weekend (March 21-24, 2013), the MFW crew is heading to Boise for the Treefort Music Festival, one of our favorite new fests. Here’s six things we can’t wait to see at this year’s edition:
1. The Main Stage
The big outdoor stage at Treefort features music from the afternoon into the night. After bumping elbows inside of clubs, it’s a treat to just stand under the open Western sky and catch some sweet sets. A sampling of artists providing the tunes this year include Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings, YACHT, The Walkmen, and Youth Lagoon.
2. Boise Food Trucks
Convenient, local, and tasty. The Boise food trucks are the only place we ate for three days last year. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it. Look around the corner from the Main Stage and in front of the Linen Building for the best eats in town.
3. Alefort
The beer festival within a music festival known as Alefort is back and looking strong this year. With free entry, live music, and $2 tasting tokens (5 ounces) this will be where you’ll find us Music Festival Wizard in between sets. I’m especially looking forward to the Sunday morning “Beers Worth Waking Up Early For” which sounds like a delicious way to wake up.
4. Boise
The host city of Treefort is one of those hidden treasures of the Northwest. Small enough to stroll down Main Street, but big enough that’s there always another new coffee shop/brunch spot/bar to discover, there’s plenty of entertainment in Boise besides the music.
5. The Red Room
It’s dirty, sweaty, and entirely too crowded at times, but the Red Room also has cheap booze and some of the best sets from last year’s Treefort which is why we love post up at this bar.
6. The Weather
A forecast of mid-fifties and partly sunny might not get your pulse racing, but for us mountain living folk, that just sounds downright tropical. Spring Break, here we come!
