River’s Edge Music Festival, we hardly knew you. Organizers announced that the Saint Paul festival will be taking a hiatus this year. River’s Edge debuted in 2012 as the Twin Cities answer to the metro music festival. Acts featured Tool, Dave Matthews Band, The Flaming Lips, and Sublime.

According to the official website:

Live Nation has made the decision to not produce the River’s Edge Music Festival in Saint Paul, MN for 2013. While River’s Edge Music Festival will not take place in 2013, we are hopeful that the event will once again take place in 2014.

By most accounts, the festival went smoothly for a first year event, but throwing a big budget show is typically a big loss for that inaugural event. Mark Campana, co-president of Live Nation North America had this to say in the StarTribune:

“Expenses for staging have gone through the roof, and there wasn’t a significant enough pairing of artists to justify putting on events this year. So River’s Edge is on hiatus this year. Hopefully, we can come back next year.”
