The Bestival Festival is billed as an electronic show, but one could also describe at is a celebration of all things just a bit strange. Costumed concert-goers coupled with a massive lineup all surrounded by the landscape of the Isle of Wight gives this party a unique twist. Almost 50,000 revellers converged on the Isle of Wight last weekend for the 7th Bestival. With arguably its strongest line up ever, an eclectic mix of music (and weather) and a reasonably hedonistic crowd, Bestival 2010 was a huge success.

One of the best acts of Bestival 2010 were recent Mercury Music winners The XX, who played the Big Top on Friday evening. The tent was absolutely rammed with the crowd stretching down the hill and, after leaving it too late to make it inside, we managed to sneakily jump the barrier and crawl under the tarpaulin like teenagers.

The Flaming lips re-inflated their giant ball and resurfaced from their Embryonic state for Saturday’s headline slot. Wayne Coyne entered the stage through a massive crotch and conjured up a state of euphoria amongst the sunburnt chocolate dwarves (oompa lumpas) and wide-brimmed ring-lovers (Gandalphs).

The Prodigy brought Bestival to a riotous climax last night (September 12) with a high-octane hits show. Britain’s superstar ravers put the UK festival season to bed, along with the campaign for their career-renewing album ‘Invaders Must Die’ on the Main Stage at Robin Hill Park.
