Organizers blame difficulties with booking artists and hot July weather with why they’re discontinuing the festival which featured acts like 311, Journey, Def Leppard, and Rascal Flatts. Red Sky aimed high (too high), aspiring to be a massive five to six music festival, but two years of stumbles never provided any heat. This year was a bit of a fiasco, with only three headliners and a one day gap during the four day show.
The lesson here: Just throwing together a bunch of bands and slapping the word “festival” into the title is only a small part of the equation. Organizers need to focus on the experience and take a step back when planning — a better venue, cooler months, a focused lineup, and shortened length could have helped Red Sky stick around.
