Pack This, Not That: The Headlamp

Headlamps also make for trippy night photos.

Pack This: Headlamp
Not That: Flashlight

The original hands free device will be your best friend at a music festival. Small, portable, and yet packing enough illumination to find your lost keys in the grass after a handstand session (it happens), every music festival junkie should have one of these tucked into their rucksack.

For anyone on the fence about purchasing a headlamp, I give you this scenario: the late night porta-pottie trip. It’s dark, it’s disgusting, and you’re going to want both hands available to navigate these dirty waters. Yes, there’s an app on your phone, but do you really want to risk dropping your iPhone anywhere in that den of desperation?

Ranging in price from $20-$50, the headlamp is required gear for any festival junkie. Do yourself a favor and skip the Wal-Mart junk and check out this selection from Backcountry.com. Unless you plan any hardcore climbing or spelunking trips, the low-end Petzl and Black Diamond models will do the trick.

Born during a backstage Bonnaroo downpour, Vito's mission in life is to dance, write, and travel to all the great festivals that this wide world has to offer.
