Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters will head up the 2012 Music Midtown Festival in Atlanta this September 21-22. Other performers include The Avett Brothers, Florence + the Machine, T.I., Girl Talk, Ludacris, Joan Jett, Van Hunt, Civil Twilight, LP, and O’Brother.

Music Midtown went on hiatus for five years then returned in 2011 with a epic show that included Coldplay and The Black Keys. The festival will once again return to its location in Piedmont Park drawing praise from local councilman and Live Nation (producers of the festival). Check out this article from MidtownPatch for some differing reactions from local residents.

Back in the day, Music Midtown featured multiple stages and dozens of acts. Last year was dialed down severely with only one day and and a hand full of acts. The addition of a second day for 2012 makes one wonder, but Peter Conlon, the Live Nation head honcho, said in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

“I’d like to grow a little more, maybe three or four stages, but we’ll never get up to six stages again, Conlon said. It got unmanageable. We were programming stages for the fact of programming them.”

Tickets for Music Midtown will cost $55 for a single day ticket and $100 for a weekend pass. Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. April 28.

On another note: This makes the second September festival for Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters. They already announced they were headlining DeLuna Festival. Don’t be surprised to see the duo on some other fall festivals together. Just saying.
