The promoters of the Oxegen Festival, Ireland’s largest music festival, put an end to weeks of speculation with an announcement that the show won’t happen in 2012. The very short statement on their website reads:

“OXEGEN, like Glastonbury, is taking a year off in 2012 and will be back July 2013. Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas & peaceful New Year. Keep Rockin’ in 2012 and we will see you in 2013! Your Oxegen Team.”

Now Glastonbury usually does take a break every few years, but this is a first for Oxegen which has run continuously since 2004. The Black Eyed Peas, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, and Beyonce all headlined last year and the popular concert was voted Best Major European Festival 2 years in a row by the UK Festival Awards.

Hey, don’t get too sad. Europe has more music festivals per square mile than anywhere else on Earth. There’s plenty happening already this summer.
