Summer Camp 2012 has scored huge with some of its early lineup announcements. Taking place May 25-27 down in Chillicothe, Illinois (about two hours southwest of Chicago), Summer Camp has long been one our favorite festivals for the Memorial Day Weekend. Let’s check out some of the highlights of the initial lineup:
moe. will be headlining as they’ve done since the start of Summer Camp along with more recent newcomer Umphreey’s McGee. Both acts will play all three nights so if you’re a fan of these guys, Summer Camp is your mecca.
Jane’s Addiction will also be headlining the traditionally jam-centric festival. Is this a sign of the future of Summer Camp towards a more mainstream lineup or just a one-shot “get.” Will Jane’s Addiction do some noodling of their own? The song ‘Three Days’ from Ritual de lo habitual clocks in well over ten minutes…
Even after the “official show” ends for the evening, Summer Camp continues late into the night. Pretty Lights will be dropping beats late at the Late Night Sunday show. There’s also late night campfire jam sessions where you might catch an impromptu performance from Greensky Bluegrass or Hot Buttered Rum.
There’s always a few pleasant surprises deeper down in the lineup like Ozomatli. The LA based group may be difficult to define, but easy enough to enjoy. They’re so good that the U.S. State Department named them official Cultural Ambassadors.
There’s also a few legends in the lineup like Bob Weir from the Grateful Dead and Chris Robinson from the Black Crowes who will be performing together with the Weir, Robinson, Greene, Acoustic Trio. Also on hand will be Gov’t Mule, an Allman Brothers side project featuring Warren Haynes and Allen Woody.
