Festival Cruise Preview: Metalheads Take to the Seas

Of all the different themes for music festival cruises, the metal genre seems to be odd match. Isn’t there too much sun? Too relaxing? Too many fruity drinks? But that hasn’t stopped metalheads from hitting the high seas in droves. We’ve gathered up a few for you to check out.

A couple of causalities in the upcoming year: The Mayhem Cruise has already sunk (that’s cancelled for ye landlubbers) and it’s unclear if the Bruise Cruise will set sail.

Barge to Hell
Dates: December 3-7, 2012
Ports of Call: Miami, Nassau
Lineup: Sepultura, Corrision of Conformity, Napalm Death, Six Feet Under

The Barge to Hell styles itself “The World’s Most Extreme Metal Cruise”. Every band will play two live sets, get your valuables signed at meet-and-greets, and of course — metal karaoke.

70000 Tons of Metal
Dates: January 28-February 1, 2013
Ports of Call: Miami, Turks and Caicos
Lineup: Doro, In Flames, Immolation, Dragonforce

From the folks who brought you Barge to Hell (see above) is another metal style jaunt into the Caribbean. The destination this time is Cockburn Town, the capital of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Full Metal Cruise
Dates: May 5-12, 2013
Ports of Call: Hamburg (Germany), Southampton (UK), La Havre (France), Amsterdam (Netherlands)
Lineup: TBA

One of the only European cruises, Full Metal Cruise is embarking on a debut journey of the Black Sea which is definitely more hardcore than hanging out on the soft, sandy beaches of the Caribbean. Plus you get to hit four countries in a week including Amsterdam. Cloudy skies every day!
