Maybe someday we won’t have to focus on the lack of gender diversity in festival lineups, but it’s already looking like 2016 won’t be that year. Still the End of the Road Festival delivers a bright spot for female artists with their first round announcement. Joanna Newsom and Bats for Lashes top a bill that include 14 female solo acts like Cat Power and Shura. There’s also more than a few bands (Thee Oh Sees and Amber Arcades) who have female band members. It’s a nice change of pace for the UK festival scene — last year an analysis by The Guardian found that 86% of advertised performers at 12 major festivals were men.
