Portugal. the Man

I’m heading out to San Francisco for Outside Lands. Three days of music in Golden Gate Park during August 28-30. Check out the MFW Festival Guide for the full lineup and ticket info. Here are the acts that are on my “must-see” list.

Autolux: Fans of Autolux have something to look forward to. It’s been a long wait for the band’s second album, Transit Transit, which is due later this year. Autolux is known for their alternative shoegazing (lots of pedals and artsy stuff) sound. Lush, experimental songs during their set will be as entertaining to watch as to hear.

Watch Autolux tap their toes on Friday August 28th at 1pm on the Lands End Stage on Polo Field.

Built to Spill: You will not see a manlier beard on any man then on Doug Martsch. From punk to indie rock, lead vocalist/ guitarist, Doug Martsch has toured the world working with enough talented artists to provide records for two bands, Treepeople and today’s Built to Spill. The latter has been playing for over 15 years so that should guarantee a rocking good time!

See Built to Spill on Friday August 28th at 2:30pm on the Lands End Stage on Polo Field.

Portugal. the Man: If you know me, then you know I will be at this show. Lyrics and voices of the Gods entice you? Portugal. The Man may become your new favorite band. I LOVE THIS BAND! If you are looking to familiarize yourself with any of their music, then I recommend taking it back to the album, Waiter: You Vultures!  Anything on that album will surely satisfy.

Saturday August 29th at 3:10 pm on the Panhandle Solar Stage on the Speedway Meadow.

4.Calexico: Who says there’s nothing good about Tucson, Arizona? I could go on for hours on why Tucson is so enticing , but I’ll stick to one thing: awesome music including bands like Calexico.  If you like alternative rock and Latin influenced folk rock, then check these guys out. The band is named after the border town of Calexico, California and many of their lyrics play with illustrating the Arizona and Northern Mexican desert.

Calexico will be playing on Sunday, August, 30th at 3:55 pm on the Presidio Stage on the Lindley Meadow.
