Following in the footsteps of mega-festival Coachella, Austin City Limits will expand to two weekends next year. The Austin City Council, the last major hurdle, voted unanimously to ACL double up for 2013 according to this article in KUT News. C3 Presents, the organizers of ACL, have promised to donate some of the extra revenue to Austin city parks. The Statesman reports that the 2013 Austin City Limits Festival will take place October 4-6 and October 11-13. That still won’t help you this year. Tickets to Austin City Limits 2012 are sold out — except for VIP packages which start at a hefty $1050 for all three days.

It’s only August and we’ve already seen two major US festivals announce plans for a dual weekend. Will this be the new trend for 2013? Who do you think will be a candidate? Sasquatch, Bonnaroo, and Ultra come to mind right off the bat. An even more important question: Does it dilute the brand for you when these festivals spread themselves over two weekends or is it just an opportunity to double your fun?
