A two-weekend Austin City Limits for 2013 has been in the works now for the better part of a year. And while it’s been reported in local papers since this summer, ACL finally made the official announcement today via social media.

Here’s some reactions from the Austin City Limits Facebook page with both love and hate pouring in for the Coachella-esque business decision to double up.

Carnation Zimbe Super lame, Coachella rip off. You can’t make magic twice. Now I’m even more glad this will be my last ACL.

Matthew Somerville and so what if ACL is copying Cochella, it’s a smart business move and ACL has a major impact on the Austin economy and more so Austin as a community gets a lot of funding to keep Zilker and other parks looking amazing. Everyone needs to quit focusing on the negatives and look at the positives…

Blake Fernandez Boooooo!!!!! This is strictly a profit based decision, neglecting input from the loyal, annual festival attendee. You want to be like Coachella then you might as well rename the festival. Thumbs down

Christopher Sims I don’t see how this is a bad deal. It means it will be less crowded and easier to get tickets.

Michael Charles I hope it’s not the same lineup for both weekends like Coachella. Other than that, good news. Don’t quite understand the complaints. More revenue for the city and more opportunities to see your favorite act. Quit being douchey hipsters.

Cato Johannessen The people behind ACL Fest has done it again. Most likely driven by greed, not by putting on the best music weekend possible. They could have put the money into getting even more great acts in a single weekend. What are the chances that they will have two top quality lineups vs. two mediocre ones?
